Easter Program

This morning was the Easter Program at Jefferson Baptist. All the girls wore their bonnets and the boys wore their bow-ties. Too cute. Emerson was not a fan of the bonnet about half way thru the program and tried to get it off, but the teachers had pinned it to her hair.

From the program Em and I headed to a 12:00 birthday party at City Park. Gorgeous day for a party in the park. Tonight she is one tired, grouch of a child that will be heading to bed early.

Starting her early

There is always something being baked or decorated in this house and I might as well get her in on the act early. Emerson got to decorate her own cookies today and embellish with what sprinkles she did not eat.

She is so proud of herself. We consider these impressionistic pieces of food art.

Bonnet for Easter Program

Their program is on Friday and the girls have to wear a homemade Easter bonnet made from cheap paper plates. The boys are to wear bow ties. This is as far as I have gotten...

Easter egg hunt and party at school

Monday was Emerson's class egg hunt and Easter picnic. They hunted eggs first then ate their picnic lunch inside because it was just too cold and windy to eat on the playground. These school parties are always chaos, but the kids have fun and love all the candy and treats they receive.

Somebody got a haircut

Em got a haircut today and we cut a good bit off to keep it shorter and healthy. Chip loves to blow it out straight knowing it wont stay like that long. It looks so cute straight. I asked Emerson if she would let me blow dry her hair like Mr. Chip and she said "Nope".
After, we went and ate sushi with Kaka. Emerson has decided she likes Miso soup and told me that when we go eat sushi she would like her own edamame and her own soup. I said yes ma'am!
From there, Emerson and I went to the mall to take pics with the Easter Bunny. I will post that in a few. We have to do the usual mall stuff...play in the playground, ride the carousel and walk around. We had a great girls day!

Audubon Zoo with her girls

We spent another beautiful Sunday in New Orleans at the Audubon Zoo. This time we had Scott, Amanda and the girls with us. Emerson adores Bella and Avery and was so excited to spend the day with them. She thinks she is such a big girl after she hangs with them all day.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

Saturday was the Baton Rouge St. Pat's parade and we could not have asked for better weather. Emerson really got into it this year and caught some great beads. Too bad you can't throw them back as I now have to find a place for a bag full of beads! She found a cash register to play with waiting for the parade to pass. Her grandmother will be proud...training.
It was a party, so I let her have whatever she wanted and boy did she take advantage. Cheese Puffs, cookie cake with green and white icing that she is still talking about, cookies and of course she had to have one of each kind, and apple slices. At least I know she will choose one healthy thing amongst all the crap.

Not exactly as I had hoped

Our stand-off at dinner tonight did not end as I had anticipated. The last few days, Emerson has all but refused to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner. I could fix all her favorites or exactly what she asks for and she will get to the table and start with the very dramatic "I am too tired to eat" or "My hand is too tired to hold the fork" or "I don't want that" or my all time favorite 2 "I have a stomach ache" and "I am not eating that"! I am not a short order cook in an all night diner and you eat what I fix. Tonight she had on her plate noodles, baked chicken and broccoli. She loves broccoli and will tell you it is her favorite food. She would have no part of any of it. Not one bite. I never require her to clean her plate, she just has to eat some bites of each thing on her plate. Denny and I finished and started cleaning the kitchen. The next thing we knew- asleep.
So I picked her up and put her to bed...at 6pm. At least I know she will be hungry at breakfast in the morning. We will see how that goes.

Fabulous Sunday in New Orleans

What a gorgeous day it was yesterday. We packed a picnic and headed to New Orleans. We picnicked in Audubon park near this cool fountain we have always liked. Denny made Emerson and me flower necklaces- Emerson thought that was the best!

We then went to the zoo...with every other person in the tri-state area. They were having some New Orleans Hornets event at the zoo which included the New Orleans Honeybees (I think that is what they are called) and Emerson just had to go talk to the cheerleaders!
Here is Em touching a piece of elephant poop that Denny swears is shellacked...Not convinced, but thank goodness for hand sanitizer. YUCK!

And a snake.
And a rat.

And we end our zoo visit with a carousel ride.
We spend the rest of the day running around in New Orleans doing a few more things. Needed to stop by Lakeside and of course dinner at Houston's. Emerson has had a very busy weekend and she fell asleep on the way home. We scooped her up and put her straight in the bed where she slept all night long and woke up this morning. She crawled into bed with me this morning.
Emerson: Momma, I had so much fun at the zoo.
Me: I know we did have a great day. You were so tired last night we put you into your bed form the car.
Emerson: Momma that is so silly.
Emerson: I still have on my clothes.
Me: Yes you do. You were so tired we did not wake you up.
Emerson laughs and then reality sets in.
Emerson: Wait. You did not give me a bath or shower?
Me: No baby, you were asleep.
Emerson: MOMMMMMM. Smell my arm. I stink! Can I take a bath now?
She is my daughter!!
