A night with a few of her friends and my last day off

A fun evening with friends to kick off the summer!

My last Saturday off we spent in NOLA.  It is our usual destination for first and last days off.  This year we did something we had never done as a family.  We took a River Boat Cruise.  We had so much fun.  And we learned a lot as well!

Audubon Zoo/Aquarium Field Trip

Last Lower School Field Trip...  All Day Zoo and Aquarium.  Denny went with on this trip and Emerson loves for him to go.  Thank goodness the weather was good.

The last few 4th Grade Projects

As we come upon the end of the 4th grade year, there was still one last push before its all over for the summer.  I remember a few things from grade school and the one project I remember the most about is the State Project.  My State was Alaska and I served Alaskan King Crab legs.  Sounds so comical now right!  Emerson's State was Massachusetts.  She served Cape Cod Cranberries.  She did a great job and has been to Boston, so she enjoyed picking out pictures to put on her display board.

The Lower School Play for this year was School House Rocks.  Of course I died when I found out, as I remember School House Rocks vividly and could sing almost every song!  It was so well done.  No crazy sets or costumes.  Just the kids and their talent.  Couldn't have been better.

The last big 4th Grade Project/Event was AmeriKids Presents President's Alive.  Each 4th grade child is assigned a President or First Lady.  They do research on their person, write a research report and learn a page worth of narrative to be presented at the Presidents Alive Performance.  Emerson was Laura Bush.  Her costume consisted of a mans wig I cut and an Ellie Tahari designer suit I found at The Purple Cow for $15.  SCORE!  And it was the perfect power suit.

Us parents had no idea what this whole performance was all about.  It, hands down, was the best Lower School Presentation I experienced.  It was so good.  All the kids really took this seriously and their costumes were top notch.  Here are a few of our friends...

After the performance, the kids and parents enjoyed a small reception and then we were all surprised by a special treat the teachers had planned for the 4th graders.  The 4th graders have pen pals in China at a small school Dunham has a relationship with.  They have all been sending letters and things back and forth all year.  So the Tech Department along with the teachers, set up a live Skype this evening with all the kids.  When are our kids at school at night when their friends on the other side of the world are also at school.  Well never, until tonight.  The kids went wild and they got to see their pen pals!  It was truly amazing and such a cool experience for the kids.
