Bakin' cakes for Jesus...sorta

For years on Christmas Eve, Emerson and I have made something (cakes, cookies, cupcakes) in honor of Jesus' birthday.  This year it took a more crafty turn.  She painted ornaments and painted a nativity scene Aunt Holly gave her.  She is so proud of it all!

Christmas Day 2013

Santa just knew what Em was into this year and I guess I need to have a talk with him about this life size Niall cut out that keeps moving around my house.  It all cute until he is standing in the middle of Em's room in the middle of the night and about freaks me out.

Santa brought Duncan a few things and he is still carrying them around.

If this child falls asleep in the car then she is tired.  This is Christmas Day about 4pm. She needed the cat nap.

Happy Holiday 2013

Merry Christmas friends.  This is that year where Denny and I look at Emerson next to the Christmas tree and realize how much she has changed since last Christmas. Sniff, sniff...

This is my coat from when I was a child and I clearly missed the window with Emerson.  It was fine to house hop for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  I guess if she was a normal sized 7 year old, it would actually fit her fine.  The sleeves are too short and her height put the coat almost at her hips.

She got a new robe and she has not taken it off since.

Emerson also got a Saige Doll AND the big girl outfit that matches Saige.  Of course she had to put it on right away!

While shopping over the Thanksgiving Break, Emerson chatted with her Jackson, MS crew she has not seem since the summer.  She took a seat in a store in order to take the very important call.

Also over the break, Em attended a horse camp.  It was so cold and rainy, but that did not stop her.  She learned all the basics of horse care and then spent 2 days riding, Max.

Dunham Breakfast with Santa was this past Saturday.  They always do such a good job with this, I think. Breakfast, crafts, Drama Club skit and then pics with Santa.

City Mouse, Country Mouse

Emerson was invited to see City Mouse, Country Mouse this past weekend. It was at the Manship Theatre and was pretty cute.  Apparently it is a classic tale, but I must admit I had not ever heard of it.  As with most things with Lila and Emerson, it starts out all cute and grown-up...

And then goes to this...

Happy Holidays 2013

Always playing catch-up it seems.  So I will just say Happy Holidays and I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.

Emerson's Class did their Chapel skit weeks ago. Em and her buddy Lila were Rainbow Fish.

Emerson and Avery attended an American Girl Charity Event a few weeks ago.  All Christmas themed out, they had a great time watching an American Girl Fashion Show, having Tea and Snacks and doing all things American Girl.

He's awake

It never fails that anytime we are anywhere in the general LSU area, Emerson is going to ask to go see Mike the Tiger.  Finally, in probably a year, we caught him awake and active.

As part of the routine, she will run off ahead of us, by herself, and climb on the bronze Mike.  She had no idea we were watching her.  She was just a singin'...

A night out...

as Zombies... We attended a Halloween Costume Party this past weekend.

I'd say we rocked it! You think this could be our Christmas Card this year?

The Jungle Book

What does a bush found in the African tundra look like?

Emerson is a bush in Dunham's production of The Jungle Book.  After a month and a half of practices lasting well into the evenings, the first show was tonight. Who knew a bush required so much practice...
I have been hearing how impressive the Music/Arts program is at Dunham and WOW was everyone right.  There are over 100 kids in this show and it went off tonight without a hitch.  There are 6 bushes, but this is all I could get to hold still long enough to take a picture. She did a great job and told me on the way home how special it was to be a part of such a big thing!

Projects

2nd Grade has really stepped things up a bit.  We have finished a few projects already this year.

Habitat Project
The Habitat Project included research, a written report, model of your animal and an example of the habitat in which it lives.
Pumpkin Baby
This last week, the kids had to learn a little bit about responsibility. They had to keep a "Pumpkin Baby" with them all day everyday.  At home, school, lunch, recess and even the bathroom.  I think the parents were much more excited about this one being complete than the kids.  Poor Emma had some issues.  Most days she came home without eyes or a nose...

A few more Boston pics

Right near the Marina, was Quincy Market.  Shopping, lots of eating and a Carousel.  This is the coolest Carousel.  It is all animals mainly native to the area.  I can;t remember them all but it included a fox, whales, butterflies, a squirrel, bunnies, owls, a moose and a sea turtle...  So well done!

Em driving The Kaki on our last day in Boston. She needs more practice for sure!
