Balboa Park

As part of the Zoo and the grounds is a wonderful place called Balboa Park and Gardens.  What a serene beautiful place. The Flower Gardens were closed the day we were there, but there was still so much to see.

San Diego Zoo

Thank goodness we did our homework on the zoo.  We only had a day to do the entire zoo, which is over 100 acres. It was recommended that we take the time to get on the 30 minute guided bus tour of the zoo first thing.  And it really did help us prioritize what we most wanted to see.  So, we started at the top Zoo and worked our way down.  On our lists of "Must See" were the Panda, Polar and Koala Bears.  

Being from Louisiana, we are spoiled to the Audubon Zoo. But now I understand why the San Diego Zoo is award winning and ranked one of the top in the world. Grounds itself are worth seeing, much less the animals we are not used to in the South.  Having said all of that, I guess I didn't take a lot of pics at the Zoo.  Don't worry.  I made up for it at Sea World.

I don't remember the town these were taken, but she was dying to get her feet wet...

 

In this town was this beautiful church.  You can see the Mexican influence in the architecture.  It was Ash Wednesday and a mass was about to start, so we could not go in.

We stayed in a pretty awesome Hotel in San Diego in the Gaslamp District.  Zoo was 10 minutes away by car and Sea World was equally as close.  We were on the water and the 29th floor. Hotel looked brand new.

Next days adventure is The San Diego Zoo.

La Jolla, CA

When doing research on this CA trip, one of the "Must See" places was La Jolla. It's a small, breezy, hip seaside town that has wonderful rock beach views and is home to hundreds of Harbor Seals.  We spent a few hours here just looking at the ocean, caves, waves, birds and the seals.  All Em will talk about is how they stunk, but they were amazing to watch.  They live their life as if no one is watching.
