Homework overachievers
Emerson was Star Student of the Week last week. To the kids, it's a pretty big deal. They do fun activities each day centered around the student. One of the activities was for your parents to write a letter to your class about you. It could be about why you are special or funny stories about you. It was left up to the parents to decide what to write. So, I started thinking about what I would write and I looked back at pictures. Emerson and I do homework right after school. Some days go better than others. I joke with Denny because all the drama is over by the time he rolls in after work and he gets to be the fun parents because all the work is done. So, I gave Denny the pictures I had printed off and told him he had homework. Here is what he wrote and how he used the pictures...
Once upon a time there lived a beautiful
Princess named Emerson.
Emerson had a passion for fashion.
No one in the kingdom could ignore the great sense of style that Emerson had.
One day Emerson accepted a challenge to sail across the Pacific Ocean. Emerson was very proficient in packing her supplies that she was going to need for her voyage.
While at sea, Emerson encountered a dangerous band of pirates.
Emerson’s
Dad, the King, had told her stories about sailors and how they defeated pirates
they encountered on the open seas.
Emerson knew to heed the
advice she had learned from her dad’s
stories. Emerson did not underestimate her bravery or
strength. Emerson fought and defeated the
pirates.
Emerson
completed her voyage and returned home where a huge welcome home party was
waiting So that was the story Emerson's teacher, Ms. Wilson, read to the class. The highlighted words were their vocabulary words for that week. I think he did a pretty good job. Looks like he needs to be in charge of Homework more often!
I will post 7th Birthday party pics soon. Trying to get caught up!

Mr. Duncan
When Denny and Em were at the beach and I was at work all day, Duncan spent alot of time by himself...digging wholes in the flower beds in the backyard. When I would finally get home, He stuck pretty close to me, which is very unusual for him. He followed me around everywhere and slept almost on top of me.
First Day of Second Grade
So exciting to be in 2nd Grade. She is very excited about her teacher and her classmates. She got a few friends she was in class with from last year, some she has not been in class with for a few years and some she only knew from the playground. Second Grade brings alot more independence in the classroom and well, in the cafeteria. Emerson is all talk about the Cafeteria and what she eats and what she can choose from...hot lunch, make your own sandwich, salad bar or the soup bar. We will have to monitor this "self-serve" lunch process for sure. I am getting the impression that all she helps herself to at the salad bar are the croutons and the Soup Bar is only good for the crackers. I will say she has mentioned trying some soup and making a salad, but maybe just enough to get what she really wants, carbs!

Saying goodbye to summer
PHEWWWWW... We made it. The summer marathon is over. We are back into the wonderful routine of school.
Emerson and Denny spent some time with friends in Santa Rosa for one last beach trip before school. Emerson, Camille, Hayes and Julian have fun anytime they are together.
