Update and a few pictures

A good nights sleep can make all the difference. Best nights sleep we have had in over a week.
Em went back to school today.  I have taken her off of all prescription medication and I know this is what allowed us to sleep all night last night.  I let her go a half day to ease her back into the full on activity.  Her teacher said she never missed a beat and ate a sandwich and fruit for lunch.  She seems to be doing well.  We go for the follow-up appointment with the ENT tomorrow.

This picture is from Grandparent's Chapel 2 weeks ago.  SO CUTE!

Emerson's class preformed during Chapel a few weeks ago.  These are the girls in her class, Amelia, Caroline, Emerson, Siya and Emma.  The class did well and the skit and music was cute.

A few I had not posted yet...

Recovery Part 2

Emerson is so much better at this point.  Our days are very good.  She plays, moves around and eats.  Our nights are a different story.  We are linking the Vicadin to severe night terrors and nightmares that result in crying, moaning and alot of talking out of her head.  She is asleep for most of it until it gets so bad she wakes herself up.  It is much easier if one of us is in the bed with her.  Not much sound sleep going on in this house these last few days. This is one reason we did not send her to school today.  A good nights sleep tonight and I think she will go back tomorrow.  I am trying to experiment with the pain medicine and have been trying to supplement with regular strength Tylenol.  I think she is mananging pretty good.

This picture is from Day 2 and this is exactly how she looked...out of it!  Dottie the class mascot has been with us the entire week too, so she has been carrying him around.

Day 5 Saturday- looking better.  She asked to put clothes on and to brush her hair.  We did some Shrinky Dinks.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, however I think this whole week may have a huge affect on Emerson's eating habits.  I have heard friends comment on what good eaters their kids were until something like a sickness or surgery.  We may have that issue.  She is asking to have raw carrots and an apple, so this is a good sign.  She insisted on having an orange yesterday.  The more I told her what a bad idea it was the more she wanted it.  She had to figure this one out on her own, so I let her have one.  She popped one slice in her mouth and was all, "See Mom.  I told you it would be fine", until it hit her a few seconds later.  She said it felt like fire and drank 2 glasses of water to make the fire stop.

Recovery: Day 3

Let me start by saying that when preparing for this surgery, we were warned about its difficulties and that Days 3-5 would be the worst.  This is due to the healing process and scabbing and blah, blah, blah.  The doctor told me, friends told me and all of the material I read told me about Day 3. And it came...with head to toe itching and vomiting.  Unable to keep anything down, including pain medicine.  She had an allergic reaction to the Codeine.  After several calls to the doctor and a crying meltdown on my part, we got new pain medicine and something for the nausea. She has very little recollection of Wednesday, which I guess is the way her body dealt with it all.  She is better now.  Eating, drinking and moving around a little more.  We actually took a ride in the car yesterday (Friday) for the first time since Monday. It did us both some good.  She is very much dependant on the pain meds still and the doctor says to not even try and and decrease those until day 10.  Not sure how Vicadin is going to work at school, but we will have to figure that out next week.  She is such a trooper and is taking the medicine so well considering me waking her up ever 4 hours.  It is such a helpless feeling to watch your child in pain and have no way of helping her.  This is just one of those things in life that has to be done. And I am sure it will not be the last.
Thanks for all of the well wishes, cards and feel better prizes!  It has helped alot.

Good-Bye Tonsils

Em had her bouncy ball sized tonsils removed yesterday.  Great to have them gone, but not a week I am looking forward to.  She did great the day of and is taking Tylenol with Codeine every 4 hours.  It is like having a newborn again.  Up every 4 hours round the clock is kicking my butt.  Codeine makes it all good for Em however.  She is even more talkative than usual and a little loopy.  Random stuff coming out of her mouth. Yesterday she ate much better than I expected.  After going almost 24 hours with nothing to eat or drink, she was trying to catch up I guess.  Today is a different story.  She is drinking alot so that is major.  The only solid food I have been able to get her to eat is a few bites of Mac and Cheese. Say some prayers she has a quick recovery.  Will post pics some pics soon.

Duncan Dog

It is non-stop activity with this dog.  Mr. Personality to say the least.

"Hey, Hey.  I think I know him."

NEWSFLASH

First things first- Emerson can tie her shoes!!!!!!! To some of you this is not a big deal.  To us, HUGE!

Secondly (not so newsworthy, but funny)- we made a trip to the ENT yesterday.  Oh no, Why you ask? Is she sick you are saying to yourself?  Yes, she is sick...In the head. She stuffed a green bead in her nose and no one at school could get it out.  Yes. A bead...B.E.A.D. So, after a call from school, we made an emergency trip to her ENT and they removed it.  It took 2 of us to hold her down and still and it was out.  Her nose bled for 30 minutes and we were done.  She actually had the nerve to complain about how long we had to wait in the doctors office AND how hard it was for her to breathe AND how scary it was.  Lesson learned...let's hope!

She's all biscuits and business

At some point on the weekends, typically Sundays, I fix a big breakfast.  We sit down as a family, have breakfast and read the newspaper.  Emerson has gotten pretty serious about the "funny papers".  She started it this summer in Maine with my Dad.
