WANTED: Blonde, female. Cranky and dangerous

Looks like a mug-shot doesn't it?
I know I post a lot of these "hair" pics, but how can I resist this opportunity.
This photo summed up her mood today.
But she's cute though!

The Moms will get it...

I attended a funeral today. And of course, we all feel lots of emotions when we attend one, but events such as these take on a whole new meaning now. Everyone says "Having a child changes everything". It does change everything- even a funeral. I sat there with such sadness and empathy and wondered how this family would find the joy in this. My mind wandered to emotions such as joy, sadness, compassion and empathy. How do I teach these things to Emerson? Will we prepare her for grief and what will she do with it? When I pass away, will I look down and know I have prepared her to be in this world as a kind, happy citizen? Will I prepare her to live in this world without me? Will I look back one day, when it is much too late, and regret that thing I did not say or do. Will Emerson regret that as well?

The only thing I can make of this is that we should live everyday as if it is our last. Say and do those things today that you want to put off until tomorrow, because tomorrow may be too late.

I will hug her a little longer today and kiss her a little softer. I will look at her face and memorize ever single part of it. I will sing and dance with her an extra song. I will make her laugh a little louder and listen as if it was the first time she giggled.
These are the things I think about today... just the thoughts of a Mom.

Road Trip

We spent the weekend in Jackson, MS with our friends the Overby's. Emerson had a ball with Isabella and Avery. She loved being with older girls and played with them well.

"Aunty A" decided to paint the girls nails Sunday. Emerson was not real sure about this and sitting still was the worst part for her. This was her first manicure and she settled into the experience well after watching Bella and Avery. She is still blowing her nails to get them dry...2 days later.

We came home Sunday night. Spent some time at the pool with friends Monday afternoon and BBQ'd. This was Emerson's first time in the pool since last summer and she seemed to enjoy it much more than last summer.

She is going to have a great time at the pool and at the beach this summer.

Hope everyone had a great long Holiday weekend. I know we did.

Thanks Aunty A, Uncle Scott, Bella and Avery. We had a great time and we can't wait to see you soon.

School's Out

I do not know how to break it to Emerson that school is out and she has several weeks left until she goes back. Luckily she has no concept of time. Her last day was last Tuesday and the end of the year picnic was Wednesday. She had lots of fun. Everyday since, she says "Skoo day tomorrow Momma." Saturday none of us got dressed and we all three did small projects around the house all day. She was especially helpful cleaning out the storage room outside. Of course she picked up ever nail, hammer, exacto knife and fertilizer she could find.

Denny says she looks like "Rosie the Riveter". I am sure you asking who the hell that is just like I did. Denny launched into some story about the war and when all the men went off to fight all the women had to go into factories and build something. Apparently, there is some famous picture entitled "Rosie the Riveter". I have never heard of such...Look it up...

Check out this do-

Today (Sunday) we took Emerson to the Audubon Zoo and we had a great time. She loved the sea lions and the birds the best. No nap today- what a sweet joy she has been this evening.

This picture just cracks me up. Her hand propped up like they are old friends or something.

It occurred to me yesterday that Emerson has never eaten a sandwich. What kind of a parent am I? I mean, what if she is given a sandwich and has no idea what to do with it. SO, I made her a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch. Denny and I watched closely as we had envisioned her eating it so quickly she needed 2 glasses of milk to wash it all down. I had cut it up into small pieces. I surely did not want to confuse her by slapping half a sandwich on her plate. I really thought the sweet jelly- which is another thing she has never had before because there is no real need for a child her age to eat jelly unless it is on a sandwich- sorry, back to the sweet jelly part- so I really thought the bread, which she loves, and the peanut butter and then add sweet jelly to that- what kid does not love this. Well, Emerson. She was sooo not impressed. She asked for carrots and tomato. Not sure why I had built this all up in my head, but very disappointing for me. I will try it again and see if she warms up to the idea. For now, we will stick to veggies and meats- boring.

I know, I know

I have been told I am slacking on this blog thing. I know. Been busy.

We had Ava's B-day this weekend and it was very fun. Emerson got t0 decorate her own pot and she loves it. She especially loved the cake and juice she got to have.

Sunday was as all holiday's are with us- non-stop. I was surprised with a wonderful and very thoughtful gift. Thank you again Denny. Oh, and Emerson slept until 9am Sunday morning, so that really counts as a gift too. We took my Mom lunch at the waterpark. From there we went to Trina's and from there home. Emerson took a nap and then Nannie and Sissy came over. Fun times.

Here are a few pictures from this weekend.

Emerson's last official day of Mother's Day out is tomorrow. She has had such a good time and will be attending the Summer Sessions which start in June. I am sure June 3rd will not come soon enough for me.

Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Today is Denny's Birthday. We sang Happy Birthday and ate cake- Em's favorite part.
She is feeling better- we think.
We had another busy weekend. Roman and Gabby celebrated their birthdays on Saturday and Sunday was Quinn and Kelsey's High School Graduation party. She was one dirty, tired little girl Sunday evening.
Emerson is into chalk and bubbles these days. I have mentioned in previous posts that Emerson plays in the backyard by herself some. Don't freak out, I can see her in the backyard and on the patio. She can't go anywhere. We try to promote confidence and artistic freedom. Well, she had no trouble expressing herself on the blue door outside. When I ran outside to put a stop to this artistic expression, she said "TA DA". As with most artists, she is very proud of her work.

Luckily it was just chalk AND outside.

Happy 3rd birthday "RoRo".

Happy 7th birthday Gabby.

And Happy *** birthday Denny. We love you.
